ON Semiconductor is seeking a self-driven and motivated intern to join their Corporate R & D modeling and simulation team, located in (South Portland, Maine) for 3 months in Summer of 2019. As a semiconductor packaging modeling and simulation intern, you will have the opportunities to build the artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning method for our virtual prototyping platform of microelectronic package development, assembly and process, quality and reliability for defect identification in world wide.

Performance Objectives:

This opportunity will ask a student to have the following performance objectives:

  • Do thermal-mechanical stress simulationfor microelectronic package and failure identification.

  • Study the AI andmachine learning methods by combining the optimization for mechanicalstress simulation through ANSYS.

  • Do analysis andcorrelation of modeling results to measured data, actual failureidentification through AI/machine learning. Validate the methodologies.

In order to be considered for an internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in school pursuing an accredited degree program. This position is specifically looking for preferably a PhD student or at least a master's.

  • Physics, Mechanical Engineering/MechanicsComputational Mechanics, or Materials major

  • Knowledge andexperience on thermo-mechanical modeling

  • Knowledge andexperience of CAD concepts such as Solidworks

  • Knowledge andexperience of optimization/probability analysis, AI and machine learningthrough FEA is a plus.

  • Knowledgesemiconductor/microelectronic packaging

  • Familiar withmaterial thermo-mechanical properties

  • Strong knowledgeof problem analysis and diagnosis technique

  • Ability to performmodel correlation to empirical measurement

  • Familiar with theUnix/Linux operating system

  • Familiar with FEAsoftware ANSYS

  • Strong Englishcommunication capability

  • Strong learningcapability

  • Good team player
