ON Semiconductor is seeking a self-driven and motivated professional to join their Product Analysis team, located in South Portland Maine. As a Product Analysis Lab (PAL) Materials Engineer, you will have the opportunity to master semiconductor sample preparation techniques used to highlight defects and help improve the quality of the products we manufacture. We work in a fast-paced and exciting environment to deliver high quality products as fast as possible. You will be a contributor on a small, but important team of engineers and technicians working together to investigate complex product failures and help our factories drive to the root cause of defects.

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to...
Perform material analysis on discrete, digital and analog product from customer returns, the wafer fab, the reliability lab, new product/process/package introduction, the assembly line, and the final testing stages.
Apply knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices of microelectronics, mechanics, physics, and chemistry in the product analysis laboratory.
Perform hands-on tasks in a lab environment, where chemical, electrical and mechanical lab tooling is used.
Perform tasks that involve handling and preparing small sample specimens for analysis.
Work in an Electro-Static Dissipative (ESD) safe-lab environment that requires the wearing of a smock, latex/nitrile gloves, acid/solvent gloves and safety glasses.
Work with and around chemicals (safety training is provided).
Develop proficiency with a wide range of analytical equipment including Optical Microscopes, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), Real-Time X-ray, and Focus Ion Beam (FIB).
Develop proficiency on sample preparation, including cross sectioning and staining, that which requires the use of chemicals and automatic polishing wheels, tripod polish, and other cross sectioning techniques.
Document and report findings to the engineering and manufacturing groups.
Interface with test, process, device, product, quality and application engineers to work toward better process control and yield optimization.
Develop advanced lab methods to help support new technology.

A flexible schedule, as there exists the chance of being moved from day shift to night shift (or vice versa)
Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize one’s work.
Must have unrestricted right to work in the U.S
Minimum 4 year bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering is required.
4-8 years of experience in the Semiconductor, Failure Analysis, or similar field preferred .
Knowledge of integrated circuit fabrication processing, solid state physics, semiconductor package assembly preferred but not required.
