As an Applications Technician for the Ac-Dc Power Conversion Business Unit, you will be supporting a team of 5 – 10 Applications Engineers in new product development of power management and control ICs specific to power conversion for Ac-Dc and Dc-Dc switched mode power supplies.

Primary responsibilities will include the following:

• Hand soldering, i.e., stuffing of printed circuit boards (PCBs)

• Handling procurement, including generating purchase orders for the PCB assemblies

• Maintaining laboratory equipment, including the coordination of yearly calibration

• Assisting engineers with collecting data or conducting tests on assembled PCBs

• Light mechanical work such as drilling & tapping or building of test fixtures & enclosures

• Debugging of failed evaluation boards

Additionally, you will be required to manage the day-to-day activities in the laboratory including the following:

• Keeping the lab fully stocked with commonly used components and other lab supplies that are necessary for the engineering team to perform their jobs

• Coordinating shipment of hardware to customers or other onsemi sites

• Maintaining the general upkeep and cleanliness of the laboratory


The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be adaptive to a dynamic work environment. This is a support role, and the ideal candidate must be available daily in the laboratory to support the application engineers as needed. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following skills:

• Ability to solder high density PCBs populated with fine pitch components

• Ability to read and interpret electrical circuit schematics and PCB assembly drawings

• Familiarity with use of lab equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, waveform generators, etc.

• Experience working with PCB software such as PADs or Altium is highly desired

• Experience generating mechanical drawings in SolidWorks or similar CAD software is desirable

• A minimum of 6 years performing the tasks and skills outlined above

• Experience with power conversion, especially switched mode power supplies is a plus

• Experience working in the semiconductor industry is a plus

• Experience working with voltages up to 1 kV is a plus

• Must be able to communicate in English
