ON Semiconductor Principal Test Engineer in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Summary :

The Power Solutions Group at ON semiconductor is seeking to hire a Principal IC Test Engineer at the Phoenix, AZ site. The work environment revolves around the guiding principles of building success through respect, integrity, and initiative. As a semiconductor test engineer you will have the opportunity to research product technical requirements, validate its performance characteristics, and then developing test solutions for high volume manufacturing. You will work collaboratively with definition, design, and application engineers to root-cause product issues, identify opportunities for resolution, and ultimately provide quality products to our end customers.

Performance Objectives :

Successful Candidates

  • Within 30 days the candidatewill be familiar with the product introduction process and the Test &Characterization guidelines. They will have an understanding of theAutomated Test Equipment used in production and the software requirements forprogram generation.

  • At the end of 6 months thecandidate will be functioning as a working member of the group. Theywill be writing programs to assist with data collection, analyzing theresults, and communicating to peers. They will also be involved withthe development of test plans and hardware for new products.

  • After the first year thecandidate will be an integral member of the team. They will be fullyresponsible for product release efforts and will be expected to identifyopportunities for product/process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop semiconductor test plans thatenable high volume\low cost solutions for production test. Detailthe project tasks, schedule, and budget expectations.

  • Work with design engineers to definetestability requirements to ensure controllability and observability needsare met to support characterization and manufacturing test.

  • Utilize Automated Test Equipment tovalidate new product designs. Communicate performance findings totechnical peers and the development team.

  • Develop test programs, analyze dataresults, and generate supporting documentation.

  • Confirm that the appropriate processguidelines, specifications, and strategies have been properly implementedinto test programs and plans.

  • Design interface and measurementcircuits that enhance tester capabilities and ensure compatibility withnew product designs.

  • Work closely with the manufacturingsites to ensure production hardware solutions and programs are releasedwithin the expected delivery dates.

  • Manage the design, fabrication, anddebug of PCB hardware that will be used during product validation.This includes schematic generation, component selection, and PCB layoutreview.

  • Attend relevant test conferences,industry shows, and/or seminars to keep abreast of industry testingstandards, etc.


  • BSEE or BSET or higherdegree with 10 years related test engineering experience in analog &digital test development

  • PCB design experienceincluding basic knowledge of Signal and Power integrity principles

  • Experience on multipletester platforms, particularly on Teradyne platforms

  • Statistical data analysiswith tools such as Excel or JMP or equivalent

  • Programming in high levellanguages such as C, C and/or Visual Basic

  • Able to manage priorities ofmultiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment

  • Able to utilize engineeringtest hardware (for example, oscilloscopes) to debug part related issues

  • Working knowledge of ATPG,scan chain insertion and DFT development

  • Excellent communicationskills

  • Comfortable with up to 10%travel

  • Program / project managementexperience is a plus
