Director of New Product Engineering (Product Engineering Owner)

We are searching for power modules new product engineering technical leader to drive all product level engineering activities for EV-traction application at onsemi. This is the high priority and business growth for the division, and we are inviting you to join us in this exciting career opportunity.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and technical skills, a team player who is able to work with the global new products development teams and cross-functional organizations to drive all product level engineering activities and make decisions to achieve product performance, reliability, and milestone schedule requirements.

  1. Represent engineering for product level decisions

  2. Define product requirement document (PRD)

  3. Identify candidate process technologies

  4. System level model for product architecture

  5. Identify most significant IP required for product

  6. Estimate die size, CLC, and total manufacturing cost

  7. Preliminary risk register

  8. Lead team of design leaders for product development

  9. Create FIT (Functional Interface Tool) for new die

  10. Complete package electrical and mechanical models

  11. Complete 3D model and simulation to verify product level performance meet spec

  12. Coordinate design FMEA

  13. Implement BKMs (Best Known Method)

  14. Product design review and acceptance

  15. Develop product design validation plan

  16. Achieve process and product design freeze milestone

  17. Provide design rules

  18. Resolve technical issues to qualify and release products

  19. Prepare content for bottom-up schedule

  20. Work with technology development team (TD) to define Look Ahead Reliability plan

  21. Ensure key deliverables from each functional team are linked, realistic, and achievable

  22. Define cycle time for key deliverables

  23. Identify critical risks and mitigation plans

  24. Provide engineering content to product line manager for business case development

  25. Die cost, package cost, overall product cost

  26. Tooling expenses and CAPEX

  27. Target yields

  28. Lead engineering execution

  29. Lead engineering execution including die and package designer, product and test, application, reliability, and manufacturing industrialization daily

  30. Coordinate and drive engineering decisions in weekly project team meeting

  31. Support product handoff to manufacturing post product release

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Physics, Electrical or electronics

  • 15 years of semiconductor power module new products development

  • Strong knowledge and experience in power module modeling and simulation tools

  • Leadership capability to lead teams by influent and able to get things done across functional organizations

  • Oral & written English language proficiency is a must and able to represent engineering activities to executive leadership

  • Ability to multitask & self-driven to produce results in a timely fashion with strong sense of urgency

  • Able to travel and attend evening meeting calls
