On-Semi ISG’s work environment is very fast paced and requires understanding and resolving extremely complex challenges. A very high level of self-discipline, initiative, and motivation is required, as you will need to handle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, with minimal supervision. Diligence towards executing project requirements on schedule is essential.
The core responsibility of the Pixel Characterization Engineer will be to characterize pixel performance of CMOS image sensors with hands-on opto-electronic testing, understand camera and pixel optics and pixel operation, and give recommendations on manufacturing process conditions and other research directions for pixel development. The end goal is to improve sensor image quality through in-depth understanding of pixel performance and operation. Additional important goals include: understanding of customer and market needs, increasing manufacturing yield, ensuring robust quality and reliability, documenting pixel design and operation details, creating and executing validation and test plans.
Example duties include:
Develop, apply and improve testing methodologyand infrastructure for optical sensor performance tests. This includes hands-ontesting of parts under development.
Understand and help determine pixel performancerequirements from/with marketing or customer input
Support proper optical pixel layout based ontarget applications and measured pixel characteristics.
Support decision making on pixel architecturesand manufacturing conditions by layout designers and process engineers.
Give input on experiment plans for silicon waferprocessing as well as color filter and micro-lens processing, using statisticaldesign of experiments (DOE) methods.
Create or refine testing software in support ofefficient, fast data acquisition and automated visualization. Use macros andscripts as needed.
Troubleshoot and debug optical performance, qualityor reliability issues of the sensor.
Analyze data and report finding usingstatistical data analysis methods.
Write detailed technical reports oncharacterization results, as well as recommendations for needed actions.
Conceive, build and maintain suitable benchcharacterization testing equipment, using sound and robust optical and mechanicaldesign principles.
Maintaining a professional, organized, and cleanlab environment.
Solid knowledge of basic optics and electronicsand prior application in a lab setting.
Basic understanding of semiconductormanufacturing processes, especially for image sensors and their impact onelectrical and optical sensor performance and image quality.
Hands-on experience working in a labenvironment, creating, maintaining and operating sensitive measurement setupsfor quality data acquisition.
Knowledge of basic electrical circuit principlesand design, CMOS pixel design, structure, and operation, including basic analogcircuits and CMOS image sensor architecture.
Understanding of imaging/camera system leveldesign and considerations.
Experience with imaging related lab hardware:light sources, lux meters, test charts, opto-mechanical components, opticalfilters (bandpass, IR cut-off), lenses.
Ability to understand, modify or write softwarefor macros / scripting to automate data acquisition and analysis, using VBA,Python, MATLAB, Excel (or other COM-capable languages).
Statistical data analysis: measures of centraltendency, variation, uncertainty, process capability, design of experiments(DOE). Use of statistical SW such as JMP and DataConductor.
Self-discipline, initiative, and motivation withthe ability to work with limited direct supervision. Diligent attention todetail with a strong commitment to do the job right the first time.
Strict adherence to project schedules anddeadlines; understanding the urgency of multiple tasks and prioritizingaccordingly.
Ability to understand and communicate complextechnical data and information in an appropriate way to a wide range ofaudiences, including engineers, business executives, and customers – typicallyusing PowerPoint to create effective presentations.
Technical creativity and innovative thinking.
BS/MS in Physics, Optical or Electrical Engineering (or related field, depending on work experience) is required, ideally with several years of relevant experience. Prior exposure to optical lab work or pixel and image sensor development is a plus.
