Thecore responsibility of the Pixel Characterization Engineer is to characterizepixel performance with hands-on opto-electronic testing, develop pixel voltageand timing operation, and give recommendations on manufacturing processconditions and other research directions for pixel development. The end goal isto improve sensor image quality through in-depth understanding of pixelperformance and operation.

Electrical circuit principles and design knowledge, including analog circuits and CMOS image sensor architecture.
Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, including pn-junction diodes and MOS transistors.
Understanding of imaging/camera system level design and considerations.
Understanding of CMOS pixel circuit design, structure, and operation.
Detailed knowledge of how pixel design, performance parameters, manufacturing process steps, and image processing affect resulting image quality.
Understanding of basic semiconductor manufacturing processes: photolithography, etch, implant, CVD, oxidation, diffusion, metallization; process integration – how the steps are put together to make devices; how these steps influence pixel performance and image quality; how the processing affects the yield and reliability of the products; constraints and practicalities of a high volume manufacturing environment (cost, capacity, throughput, etc…).
Hands-on experience working in a lab environment with sensitive measurement equipment and data acquisition.
Experience with general electrical lab hardware: voltage/multi-meters, oscilloscopes, network and parameter analyzers.Experience with imaging related lab hardware: light sources, lux meters, test charts, opto-mechanical components, optical filters (band-pass, IR cut-off), lenses.
Knowledge of basic optics and lens parameters (F#, focal length, field of view, depth of field), angular acceptance, chief ray angles vs image height.
Understanding of radiometric and photometric quantities and units and the conversion between them.
Understanding color-checker (“Macbeth”) chart usage for image quality metrics extraction.
Hands-on experience with applying above-mentioned optical engineering, radiometry and photometry concepts to set up image capture experiments and follow with image analysis for extracting various image quality metrics such as SNR10 and color error.
Ability to write software for macros / scripting to automate data acquisition and analysis, using VBA, Python, MATLAB, Excel.
Statistical data analysis: measures of central tendency, variation, uncertainty, process capability, design of experiments (DOE). Use of ANOVA-based statistical software tools (such as JMP).
- B.Sc./M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (or related field, depending on work experience) with 5 /3 years of relevant experience in pixel and image sensor development is required.ORPh.D. in Electrical Engineering (or related field, depending on work experience) with 1 years of relevant experience in pixel and image sensor development is required.
